Composite paraffin /expanded graphite phase-change materials ( PCMs) respectively containing 50% (mass fraction, below the same), 60% , 70% and 80% of paraffin were prepared by using paraffin as a latent hea-tstorage material and expanded graphite as a supporting matrix. The structure and thermal properties of PCMs were then characterized by means of SEM and DSC. It is shown that paraffin can be uniformly absorbed into the pore network of expanded graphite, that expanded graphite remains its vermiform structure in PCMs, that the phasechange temperatures of composite PCMs are similar to that of paraffin, and that the latent heat of composite PCMs is equivalent to the calculated values based on themass fraction of paraffin in the composite materials. Moreover, tested results of heat storage and release indicate that the time o f thermal-energy storage and release of the composite PCM containing 80% of paraffin decreases respectively by 69. 7% and 80. 2% , as compared with that of paraffin.

A composite low-grade thermal-energy storage sorbentw as first prepared by impregnating hygroscopic salt CaCl2 into silica gel. Nex ,the water adsorbing properties of the prepared so rbent and pure silica gel were measured and compared. Then, the corresponding thermal-energy storage properties were investigated in a sorption setup. Finally, the factors affecting the adsorbing properties of the composite so rbent were studied. Experimental resultsshow a proper impregnation period of 4h and an increase in water adsorption and specific thermal-energy storage density with the increases of CaCl2 content and impregnation temperature. It is also indicated that the specific thermal-energy storage density of the composite sorbent increases up to 1050 J /g with the amount of adsorbed water, and that the composite sorbent can be effectively regenerated at 90℃. Therefore, the composite sorbent is feasibleto store and utilize the low-grade thermal energy, such as solar energy and industrial-waste heat.

Argon plasma combined with coupling agents was employed to modify the surface of poly[ 1, 4-phenylene-cis-benzobisoxazole] ( PBO) fiber. SEM, XPS and droplet profile method were then respectively used to determine the surface morphology, the composition and the contact angle of PBO fibers before and after the treatment. Moreover, the interfacial shearing strengths between PBO fiber and epoxy resin before and after the treatment were finally measured by the single-fiber pull-out tes.It is found that the surface hydrophilicity of PBO fiber and the interfacial shearing streng th between PBO fiber and epoxy resin are greatly improved after the modifica tion, and that,in the conditions of 2% ( mass fraction) of coupling agent ,2min o f treatment period, 30W of power and 50Pa of pressure, the contact angle between the fiber and water reduces fromorig inalmore than 90° to 54. 5° , and the corresponding interfacial shearing strength rises to 10. 44MPa, increasing by 78% . Furthermore, both the interfacial shearing strength and the water hydroph ilic ity of PBO fiber are kept from becoming vestigial after the modification as time progresses.

A tungsten oxide pH electrode was first prepared by means of sol-gel method.Modified KCI-doped poly-vinyl alcohol and Nation film were next coated on anode·polarized Ag wire to obtain a solid Ag/AgCI reference elec-trode.Then,a tungsten oxide pH sensor without the inner solution and the ceramic plug was fabricated with the prepared pH electrode and the solid reference electrode.Tested results indicate that the prepared pH sensor possesses
a good voltage(V)-pH response linearity in the pH range of 2-1 1,with a response sensitivity of 52.6 mV(the voltage variation per unit pH value)and a measurement accuracy of 0.1 unit of pH value, and that the tungsten oxide pH electrode resists the corrosion of HF,with a perspective of the response voltage when being applied to the HF solution with a mass fraction of 5%-20%.meaning that the electrode adapts to the concentration determination
of HF solution.Moreover.the pH sensor works very well in sol solution, with a response time less than 1 min.

The introduction of vacuum pyrolysis into the treatment of waste p rint circuit board (WPCB) was first proposed in this paper. In order to lay a theoretical foundation for the batch treatment, the pyrolysis kineticswas investigated. Based on the differential thermo-gravimetry (DTG) curves of WPCB, the three stages of pyrolysis of WPCB were then discussed, and the corresponding kinetic parameterswere found, that is, the reaction order is 3, the average activation energy is 68. 001 kJ /mol, and the pre-exponent factor is 4. 67 ×107 min- 1. As compared with the pyrolysis in N2 , the pyrolysis activation energy in vacuum decreases by about 100 kJ /mol. Furthermore, there is little difference between the simulated DTG curves obtained by computer and by experiments.

In this research, the mechan ism of scale controlling by ultrasonic was revealed through the crystal dynamics and the investigation into the in fluence of ultrasonic on the shape and size of CaCO3. The results show that the nucleation induction period of CaCO3 crystals is shortened and the formed velocity of crystal nuclei is inc reased by ultrasonic, which causes a great number of minicrystals promptly to suspend in solution. And, the growth velocity of the crystal is decreased and the deposition of the scale on pipe well is prevented, thus decreasing the amount of scale. Moreover, the cavitation and mechanic l function of ultrasonic result in the increase of scale solubility, destroy the formed scale and make the scale soft fall off. In addition, ultrasonic radiation changes the shape, the size of CaCO3 crystal and the pileup form of the scale, thus preventing the pipeline from begriming. Experiments in a mill indicate that ultrasonic treatment can not only prevent the scale formation but also remove the formed scale, with an average efficiency of scale controlling up to 76. 4%. Thus, the evaporation in tensity and heat transfer coefficient of the evaporation system is improved.

A new kind of catalyst ,Fe3+ / γ-A l2O3 , was prepared by means of ultrasonic radiation and impregnation, and the heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of phenol-containing wastewater w as conducted with Fenton reagent. Then, the catalytic activities of the catalysts obtained by the two above-mentioned methods were compared and characterized by means of XRD and XPS. The results show that the Fe3+ / γ-A l2O3 catalyst obtained by ultrasonic radiation is of strong catalytic activity, and the correspond ing degradation rate and conversion efficiency are two times those of the catalyst obtained by impregnation. XRD results show that the catalytic activity of the catalyst is related to the dispersion state of Fe3+ onγ-A l2O3 surface. XPS results show that the catalyst obtained by ultrasonic radiation is of a lower dispersed diffraction peak of Fe3O4 and a wider half-peak width, which means that Fe3O4 well disperses on the catalyst surface with small particle size, or exists in non-crystallized amorphous state, thus improving the catalytic activity

Two kinds of CoMgAlO catalysts were respectively prepared by means of coprecipitation and impregnation, which were then used to adsorb the SO2 and NO in flux gas at atmospheric pressure. The results show that the two catalysts are all of excellent capability to adsorb SO2 and NO, and the CoMgAlO catalyst prepared by coprecip-itation is of better adsorbing capability. The investigation of the influences of calcined temperature, Co content and adsorption temperature, etc. on the adsorption capability indicates that, when the CoMgAlO catalyst prepared by coprecipita ion with 10% ( mass fraction) Co is ca lcined at 550℃ , its adsorbing capability achieves the maximum value at 120℃ , concretely, 1. 36mmol of SO2 and 0. 223mmol of NO can be adsorbed by 1g of catalyst.

The volumetric mass transfer eoeflficients in different operating conditions were measured by means of chemical absorption on a self-developed muhistaged spraying rotating packed bed.A mathematical model describing the mass transfer between the liquid and the gas in the packed bed was then established based on the double-film theory.Experimental results show that the volumetric mass transfer coefficient increases with the liquid and gas fluxes. Moreover,an equation expressing the mass transfer coefficient in droplet was induced according to the experimental data, and that, when a droplet leaves the wires,it turns into the spraying area under the action of centrifugal force, and the high circulation speed may result in a great mass transfer coefficient in the droplet.

The effect of ultrasonic radiation on the extraction of carotenoids from corn was investigated and the structure of extracted carotenoids was characterized by FTIR.The resuhs show that.when the mass ratio of corn to ethanolis 1:6.the ultrasonic radiation with a frequency of 20 kHz and a power of 900 W at 33~4O℃ f0r 30 min may result ifl an increased mass fraction of carotenoids.which is 16.25 times that wifhout ultrasonic treatment.and that the mass fraction of carotenoids increases with ultrasonic power at 33~35 ℃,little influence on the extraction of corn carotenoids being caused by ultrasonic frequency. The resuhs also indicate that,at the first extraction stage, the Sonic Horn should be immerged half depth into the extraction liquid.and after an extraction for 12 min.it should be immerged 1/2~1/3 depth into the extraction liquid.Moreover.the mechanism of ultrasonic enhance.ment on the extraction of COITI carotenoids was discussed in this papbr. The final results obtained by FTIR reveal that ultrasonic has no effect on the chemical structure of corn carotenoids.
