Abstract: The ability of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) to adsorb sunset yellow (SY) in aqueous solutions is inves-tigated,and the adsorption process affected by pH value, adsorbent dosage, initial SY concentration and tempera-ture is explored. The results show that (1) pH value is an important influencing factor of adsorption efficiency;(2) the best adsorption is achieved at a pH value of 2,an AGS dosage of 2 g/L and a temperature of 35℃;(3) the equilibrium adsorption capacity is positively correlated with the initial SY concentration; and (4) the equilibrium adsorption data accord the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model well, with a saturated SY adsorption capacity of 142. 86 mg/L. Thermodynamic analysis indicates that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic for dye,and that low SY concentration benefits the adsorption affinity. Thus,it comes to the conclusion that AGS can be used as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of SY dye from wastewater.
