Abstract:

In order to improve the dispersion stahilities and physico-mechanical properties of short carbon fibers ( SCFs) in coatings , the methods of nitric acid oxidation and in -situ polyaniline (P ANI) coating were adopted to modify the surface properties of SCFs. Then , by means of XPS , SEM , UV -Vis , four-point probe measurement and coaxial cable method , the activated functional groups on the modified SCF surface , the microstructure and dispersion
stability of the modified SCFs and the coating mechanism of PANI on the SFC surface were investigated. The results indicate that the nitric acid oxidation helps to increase the oxygen-containing functional groups , that the oxidation combined with the PANI coating on the SCF surface via chemical bonds helps to improve the dispersion stability of SCF in the coating , and that , as compared with the coating with the original SCFs , the coating with PANIcoated oxidized SCFs is of a sheet square resistance decreasing from 17. 1 Ω to 5. 3 Ω.
