Efect of van der W aals Force on Torsional Buckling of Double-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract:

This paper investigates the torsional buckling of double-wall carbon nanotubes on the basis of the elastic shell model.Considering the effect of van der Waals force between the inner and outer nanotubes into account, the critical buckling condition of double-wall carbon nanotubes is presented,and corresponding numerical computation is carried out.Th e results show that the larger the nanotube radius is,the greater the efect of van der Waals force is.
