Abstract: Three transition metal catalysts‚CuO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 ‚CdO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 and NiO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 ‚were prepared by depositing transition metal nitrate solutions on γ -Al 2 O 3 via impregnation. The catalytic activities of these three catalysts were compared by the catalytic combustion experiments of ethanol‚acetone and toluene.Experimental results show that both the light -off temperature and the total conversion temperature of the catalytic combustion of these three volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are much lower than the corresponding burning points‚that CuO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 is of an more excellent catalytic activity than CdO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 and NiO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 ‚that the light -off temperatures of the catalytic combustion of acetone‚ethanol and toluene catalyzed by CuO/ γ -Al 2 O 3 are respectively180‚190and230℃‚and that the stronger the polarity of VOCs is‚the easier the corresponding oxidation is.
