Abstract: The preparation of carbon fibre-reinforced thermotropic liquid crystallic polymer(TLCP) composites has been reported.Influence of fibre content‚fibre style on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the composites are discussed. The experiments show that the tensile strength of CF(continuous fibre)/TLCP composites reached385 MPa‚the flexural strength was about242MPa‚the impact strength got to29912J·m -2‚the Brinell hardness went as high as20‚and the heat distortion temperature was more than203℃.The results demonstrate that the machanical properties of the composites are influenced by fibres style‚and the machanical properties of CF(continuous fibre)/TLCP composites are higher than that of CF(chopped fibre)/TLCP compo-sites.The SEM photographs show that TLCP molecules orientated along the direction of fibre and formed micro fibre structure during the fabrication‚and the properties of the composites increased obviously.
