Abstract:

Based on the differential geometry and the elastomechanics theory, the physical model and of a non-rotating wire rope under straight tension is established, and the corresponding mechanical equations are deduced. Then, based on the space spiral equations,an entity model of the rope is set up using the three-dimension CAD software ProE and is introduced in ANSYS to carry out mechanical analyses for the verification of the proposed model.  It is found that the calculated results obtained by the proposed model are basically consistent with those of the finite element analysis, which means that the proposed model is correct.
