Abstract:

Subjective speech intelligibility scores of Chinese and English are obtained through the sucjective evaluation of simulated room acoustical signals with different objective speech intelligibility parameters by a native standard Chinese listener. Then, the relationships and their difference between the scores and the speech transmission index STI for Chinese and English are analyzed. The results show that Chinese and English speech intelligibility scores increase with STI,that Chinese speech intelligibility scores are higher than English ones for the rhyme test words under the same conditions with native standard Chinese listener, and that the same circumstance occurs at high STI but opposite result is obtained at low STI for HINT sentences.
