Abstract: In order to discover the damage characteristics of composite stiffened panel under hail impact, firstly,a finite element model of composite stiffened structure is established in light of Abaqus.Secondly, the process of hail impact is simulated by means of smooth particle hydrodynamic approach. Then, the influences of impact location, impact energy and impact angle on the dynamic response of composite stiffened panels are analyzed. Moreover, the panel damage and the delamination between panel and stiffener are also discussed. Finally,a comparison between the numerical results and the experimental ones is made to verify the accuracy of the proposed finite element model. It is found that, among various damage forms, tensile damage of the matrix and delamination damage between the panel and the stiffener are most significant; and that, when the impact point is at the edge of stiffener, the delamination damage between the panel and the stiffener becomes the most serious.
