Abstract: Ozone was employed to degrade the water-soluble lignin-derived compound eugenol in a simulated wastewater system, and the effects of pH value, initial eugenol concentration, ozone mass concentration and reac- tion temperature on the CODCr removal as well as the corresponding kinetics were investigated.Experimental results show that (1) the ozonation process is effective in degrading eugenol; (2) the CODCr removal is up to 67. 77% after the ozonation with an initial eugenol concentration of 1 mmol/L and with an ozone mass concentration of 24. 83mg/L at 25℃ and pH 11; (3) the CODCr removal of eugenol accords well with the two-stage pseudo-first- order kinetics; and (4) the exponential function is effective in analyzing the ozonation kinetics and obtaining the kinetic models describing the CODCr removal within 0 ~10min and 10 ~60min,respectively.
