Effect of Form Asymmetry of Gymnasium on Natural Ventilation and Thermal Comfort of Exercise Site

Abstract:

In order to increase the indoor air change rate of gymnasiums and improve the thermal comfort of exercisesites under natural ventilation condition in hot and humid regions,by taking Guangzhou as an example,the symmetricaland unsymmetrical models,as well as the unsymmetrical model with corbel table of a gymnasium are simulatedand calculated with Fluent and other software.The results indicate that,in the same external condition,theunsymmetrical models with and without corbel table are both more effective in increasing the wind velocity of theexercise site and the integral air change rate of the gymnasium than the symmetrical model,especially the former.Moreover,based on the unsymmetrical model with corbel table,window-opening ventilation strategies for sportscompetition are further put forward,and the influences of natural ventilation on the thermal comfort of the exercisesite in different form models and use modes are discussed.
