Abstract:

In order to evaluate the reliability of existing frame structures , a simplified fully-stochastic process model is adopted and the characteristics of structural resistances and loads are considered to establish a reliability appraisal formula for existing frame structures based on the partial coefficient method. Then, on the premise of maintaining the reliability of the structures, the calibration method of target reliability specified in the current design codes is employed to deduce some calculation formulas of the partial coefficients for both optimum load and resistance at different target periods of usage. Finally, by developing a program, the corresponding partial coefficients as well as the earthquake reduction factors for different target periods of usage are calculated. It is indicated by example that the proposed reliability appraisal formula can be conveniently applied to the reliability evaluation of existing frame structures.
