Abstract:

In order to investigate the reaction mechanism of organic pillared hydrobiotite,a hydrobiotite from Weili.Xinjiang, that is,a vermiculite-phlogopite interstratified mineral.was modified by cationic surfactants of quaternary ammonium with different alkyl chain length. The complexes were then tested by X-ray diffraction and infrared spec-trum.The effects of the crystallization degree, the uniformity of charge distribution.the surrounding hydration cat-ion and the pillaring mode of organic molecule on the interlamellar space of hydrobiotite were finallv discussed. The results show that the quaternary ammonium cations(C12TA+ ,C14TA+)with short alkyl chain only react with the hydration cation in the interlamerllar space of hydrobiotite, while those with long chain(C16TA+ ,C18 TA+ )first react with the hydration cation, then with the kalium cation in phlogopite interlayer.
