Abstract:

Maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride were used to carboxylate unprocessed sugarcane bagasse after ultrasonic radiation,an d the efects of ultrasonic radiation time, the reaction temperature and the anhydride dosage on the carboxylation yield were investigated. The yield was then compared with that of the sugarcan e bagasse treated with succinic anhydride.Experimental results show that the carboxylation yield reaches the maximum with an ultrasonic radiation for 30 min at the reaction temperature of 90℃.Characterization results of the carboxylated sugarcane bagasse by FTIR.CP/MAS 13CNMR spectroscopy and thermal an alysis indicate that there occurs the esteriflcation ofthe hydroxyl groups at C2 and C3 positions inthe cellulose, and that the therm al stability ofthe modified sugarcane bagasse decreases due to the esterification.
