Abstract:

Hexadecyl acrylate was prepared by the microwave-assisted direct melting esterification, with acryI.acid and hexadecyl alcohol as the raw materials and toluene-P-sulfonic acid as the catalyst. The efects of the microwave power, the irradiation time, the molar ratio of acrylic acid to hexadecyl alcohol and the catalyst dosage on the vield weIe then investigated. The results show that,in the optimum conditions of preparing hexadecyl acrylate,a
micr0wave power of 260 W ,an irradiation time of 1 5 min,a molar ratio of acrylic acid to hexadecyl alcohol of 1.3:1.0 and a catalyst dosage of 0.7%,the yield of hexadecyl acrylate reaches 97.5%and the reaction rate in.crefitses by 16 times. All these reveal the superiority of microwave-assisted synthesis in terms of technological effi-ciency and energY cost.A new method to synthesize hexadecyl acrylate is thus provided.
