Abstract:

A major disadvantage existing in the BDCT(Block Discrete Cosine Transform)technique is that the de-coded images, especially at very low bit rates, exhibit highly noticeable blocking artifacts near the block bounda-ries.In order to improve the quality of the reconstructed image,an adaptive deblocking algorithm based on MRF (Markov Random Field)is proposed in this paper. As human visual system has the masking characteristic of bloc-king artifacts,a visibility function of blocking artifacts is introduced, and a new adaptive potential function is adjus-ted according to the visibility function of blocking artifacts and the edge inform ation.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is of merits in abolishing the blocking artifacts, protect the original edges and saving time.
