Abstract:

On the basis of the experimental investigation into the hard turning of iron.base sintered alloys by Al2O3 /(W,Ti)C ceramic tools, the wear characteristics and failure mechanism of the tools were analyzed.and the effects of cutting parameters and material property on the tool wear were discussed. The results indicate that Al2O3 /(W,Ti)C  ceramic tools are effective for the hard turning of iron-base sintered alloys.and that the norlnal wear m0des of the tools are mainly the abrasive wear accompanied by micro-chipping and fracture and the adhesive wear . while at a higher cutting speed, the tool failure is mainly due to the fracture on the cutting edge.
