Abstract: The polyurethane-acrylate (PUA)hybrid emulsion was prepared by the emulsion co-polymerization of water-borne polyurethane dispersion with methyl methacrylate (MMA).The effect of MMA content on the preparation of PUA emulsion and the properties of PUA coating film were then investigated. The structure and relative molecular mass of PUA were finally characterized by FTIR and GPC.It is found that , with the increasing of MMA content , for PUA emulsion, the average particle size and relative molecular mass increase , while the viscosity decreases;and for PUA coating film, the mechanism properties, water resistance and alcohol resis-tance improve, while the film gloss decreases .The optimal MMA content is 20%~ 30%of the total solid content (in mass)of PUA emulsion system.
