Abstract

In this paper, first, from the viewpoint of reducing the vehicle emission at road intersection, the mechanism how the signal control impacts vehicle emission is analyzed, and the relationship among signal timing, running state and vehicle emission is investigated.Next, according to the effect of running state on the emission, some mo-dels are established to describe the emission respectively in complete-stop,uncompleted-stop and non-stop states. Then,an optimization method of signal timing scheme is proposed by taking the least incremental emission as the objective. Finally,a verification experiment is performed with the real data of a typical intersection in Changchun,China. The results show that the proposed optimization model helps to reduce the vehicle emission by 6.43%.
