A novel starch-based absorption material was prepared via enzymolysis and heated-ethanol co-processing,with corn starch as the material. The specific surface area, morphology of the product were then characterized by using a pore surface area analyzer and a scanning electron microscope, and the capabilities of water absorption and oil absorption of the product were investigated. The results show that, after the co-processing,many holes form in starch granules, and the granules become loose, with increases in the specific surface area, the hole diameter and the hole volume. Moreover,it is indicated that the starch granules after the co-processing are of excellent absorption property. For example,at an enzyme dosage of 0.9%,its water absorption and oil absorption are respectively 5.1 and 1.9 times those of the native corn starch.
