Nanocellulose whisker(NCW) suspension was prepared via the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis and the pro-duct was characterized. Then, the effects of temperature and NCW content on the viscosity of the suspension were analyzed, and the Ostwade power equation model of the suspension was discussed, finding that the viscosity of NCW suspension increases with the NCW content, but it is insensitive to temperature. Moreover, the effects of temperature and NCW content on the rheological properties of waterborne polyurethane(WPU) dispersion mixed with NCW suspension were investigated. The results show that the addition of NCW in the WPU dispersion helps to decrease the viscous flow activation energy and improve the thixotropy of the mixed system, meaning that NCW is an effective thickening agent of WPU dispersion.
