Abstract

To adapt to the more and more complex communication environment and improve the capacity and quality of communication system,a reconfigurable antenna with wideband multi-polarization based on CPW-fed ( CPW: Coplanar Waveguide) was put forward. The antenna is based on coplanar microstrip lines. Four PIN diodes are placed on the slot etched on the ground plane. By controlling the on-off state of the PIN diode switch, the surface current distribution of the antenna is reconfigured, and the polarization mode of the antenna is changed. With the help of the optimized impedance matching and parasitic elements, the proposed reconfigurable antenna with wideband multi-polarization was designed, including LP ( linear polarization) ,LHCP ( left-hand circular polarization) and RHCP ( right-hand circular polarization) . The measured results show that, the overlapped impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna in the three polarization modes can reach 48. 5% ( Antenna return loss | S11 | < - 10 dB, frequency range: 2. 42 ~ 3. 97 GHz) . Under the circular polarization mode, the overlapped axial ratio bandwidth is about 48. 2% ( axial ratio < 3 dB,frequency range: 2. 33 ~ 3. 81 GHz) . The measured results of this antenna are in good agreement with the simulated ones. Owing to its advantage of wideband and multi-polarization modes, this antenna can meet the requirements of multi-polarization applications in mobile communication and satellite communication.
