Abstract

The investigation into injury biomechanics of Chinese human body orients to offer scientific data for im- proved Chinese automobile safety regulations. In order to investigate the injury response and mechanism of Chinese human body,a finite element model of the upper limb for Chinese 50th percentile male occupants is constructed based on the anatomical structures by CT scanning. The model is detailed into the bones and the soft tissue (name- ly the joint, the ligament, the muscle and the skin) of the upper limb. Then, according to the non-uniformity of the long bone section,a numerical model of the cortical bone section is constructed by continuously changing thick- ness and shape. Finally,by experimental data summarized from the past mortal human subjects, the reliability of this model is verified under the quasi-static and dynamic loading, and the response of the shoulder joint in a side collision is also analyzed. The result shows that the constructed the models can fairly reflect the injury characteris- tics of the upper limb.
