Abstract

A nonlinear system dynamics model of cylindrical magnetorheological fluid (MRF) couplings, which considers such properties as the maximum transmission torque, the adjustable torque multiple, the phase difference of angular velocity, the stabilization time and the designed coupling dimension,is established, and the dominant eigen solutions reflecting the property indicators of the couplings is presented. Based on the eigen solutions, the dimension and properties of a MRF-132DG coupling are designed and evaluated. The results show that the proposed theoretical model and eigen solutions possess definite physical meanings, thus avoiding complicated numerical analysis of mathematical models and complex curve fitting of experimental property parameters. This research provides direct guidance and reference for the design and property analysis of MRF couplings with the structure similar to MRF-132DG.
