Polymerization Stability of St-BA-HEMA-AA Copolymeric Latex Containing Functional Monomers

Abstract: The quaternary copolymeric latex of styrene-butyl acrylate containing functional monomers‚ such as hydroxyethyl methacrylate and acrylic acid‚was prepared by the emulsion polymerization process with potassium sulfate as the initiator.The effects of emulsifier system‚initiator system‚functional monomer dosage‚polymerization process and polymerization temperature etc.on the stability of emulsion polymerization were systemically investigated.It is found that the decrease in polymerization temperature‚the increase in emulsifier dosage and the adoption of sem- i continuous emulsion polymerization process are beneficial to improving the stability of emulsion polymerization.
