Abstract:

For a steel structure , it is difficult to design reasonable joint on the irregularly-arranged beam. In order to solve this problem , a typical kind of full-scale beam-column joint strengthened with stiffening ring on the irregu-larly-arranged beam is modeled and tested , and the structural behavior and collapse mechanism of the joint are also investigated. Based on the experimental results , a finite-element analyzing model is established according to the elastic-perfectly plastic model , the Von Mises yield criterion and the geometric nonlinearity. The proposed nonli-near finite element model is then employed to carry out numerical parametric analyses for the joint. By summarizing the experimental and numerical results , two formulae are finally presented to calculate the load-carrying capacity and stiffness of the joint strengthened with stiffening ring on the irregularly-arranged beam.
