Calcium phosphate cement(CPC) scaffolds with large porosities and high compressive strength were prepared for bone tissue engineering via the soluble salt-leaching method combined with the cold isostatic pressing treatment, with cubic sodium chloride and rod-like monosodium glutamate crystals as porogens, respectively. Then, the phase composition of the scaffolds was analyzed by XRD and the effect of porogenmorphology on the microstructure and mechanical property of the scaffolds was investigated by means of SEM and mechanical tests. The results indicate that(1) the major phase of the scaffolds prepared with the two above-mentioned porogens are both poorly crystalline hydroxyapatite;(2) the shape of macropores in the scaffolds depends on the porogen morphology that affects the porosity and mechanical property of the scaffolds;(3) with the same dosage of porogen, the porosity of the scaffold prepared with monosodium glutamate crystals is higher than that of the scaffold prepared with sodium chloride crystals, while the compressive strength is lower;and(4) the cold isostatic pressing treatment results in high compressive strength of the scaffolds.
